RELIGIOSITY, PERSONAL VALUES, AND SOCIAL CAPITAL IN MIDDLE EAST AND NORTH AFRICAN (MENA) COUNTRIES

The majority of research on social capital, religion, and values has been conducted in Europe. In the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region, there is a scarcity convincing empirical evidence impact religion capital. To fill this gap, study examines relationship between religiosity-related variables, values, capital 9 MENA countries utilizing individual-level data from Round 7 World Values Survey. Using definition as form solidarity, we measure prosocial through civic norms activism. Based findings factor analysis, two composite indicators were constructed: Rather than following single religiosity, common literature, consider other measures that encapsulate important notions religiosity countries, such self-defined spirituality intensity belief. Linear regression was used to determine effect According findings, trust negatively related positively associated with more frequently individuals pray define themselves having religious affiliation, higher their level norms, attend services, lesser norms.
